In this tutorial, you will learn how to add a new property listing from the front-end User Dashboard in WPRentals. Watch Video on Youtube

The Listing Submission Form settings control which fields users see when they add or edit a listing from the front-end User Dashboard.

These settings are managed by the site admin and apply to the front-end listing form used by owners, registered users with listing access, and site admins who manage listings from the front end.

Go to:

Theme Options > Add Listing Page & Payment Settings > Listing Submission Form

WPRentals Listing Submission Form settings

Important: These settings do not create new custom fields or new features. They only control which available fields are shown in the front-end listing form and which fields are mandatory.

What This Setting Controls

The Listing Submission Form settings control the fields displayed when a listing is added or edited from the front-end dashboard.

From this section, the site admin can manage:

  • which listing fields appear in the front-end form
  • which fields are mandatory
  • which custom fields appear in the form
  • which Features and Amenities appear in the form
  • the labels used for the main and secondary category fields
  • the label used for the description field
  • the maximum number of uploaded images per listing
  • the page where users are redirected after submitting a listing

Where the Listing Form Is Used

The settings apply to the front-end listing form used from the User Dashboard.

The correct paths are:

User Dashboard > My Listings > Add New Listing

or

User Dashboard > My Listings > Edit Listing

This applies to:

  • registered owners who submit and manage their own listings
  • site admins who manage listings from the front-end dashboard
  • single-owner websites where the admin or one selected owner manages all listings

Important: For full access to WPRentals listing options, use the front-end listing form. Some options are designed to be managed from the User Dashboard form, not only from wp-admin.

Listing Submission Form

The option Select the Fields for listing submission controls which fields appear in the front-end Add New Listing and Edit Listing forms.

This list can include:

  • default WPRentals listing fields
  • custom fields created in Theme Options > General > Listing Custom Fields
  • Features and Amenities created in Listings, Bookings & More > Listing Features

Only the fields selected in this list will show in the front-end listing form.

Tip: To select multiple fields, use CTRL on Windows or Command on Mac while clicking the field names.

Select What Fields Are Mandatory

The option Select what fields are mandatory controls which fields must be completed before a listing can be submitted.

If a field is selected as mandatory, the user cannot submit or continue the listing form until that field is completed.

Important: Do not make a field mandatory if that field is not also selected to show in the submission form. A hidden mandatory field can block users from submitting the listing.

Recommended workflow:

  1. First choose the fields that should appear in Select the Fields for listing submission.
  2. Then choose which of those visible fields should be mandatory.
  3. Save the settings.
  4. Test the form from User Dashboard > My Listings > Add New Listing.

Custom Fields in the Submit Form

Custom fields must be created first from:

Theme Options > General > Listing Custom Fields

After creating a custom field, return to:

Select fields for listing submission in WPRentals

Theme Options > Add Listing Page & Payment Settings > Listing Submission Form

Then select the custom field in Select the Fields for listing submission if you want it to appear in the front-end listing form.

If the custom field should be required, also select it in Select what fields are mandatory.

Important: After adding new custom fields, re-save the Listing Submission Form settings. Newly created fields may not appear as selected until this section is saved again.

Features and Amenities in the Submit Form

Features and Amenities are managed from:

Listings, Bookings & More > Listing Features

Features and Amenities in WPRentals

After adding or editing Features and Amenities, return to:

Theme Options > Add Listing Page & Payment Settings > Listing Submission Form

Then select the features you want to show in the front-end Add New Listing and Edit Listing forms.

Important: After adding new Features or Amenities, re-save the Listing Submission Form settings so the new items can be selected for the front-end form.

Category Labels in the Submit Form

The category label options control the text shown for the main and secondary category fields in the front-end listing form.

These settings change the form labels and dropdown placeholder text. They do not rename the actual taxonomy terms already created in WordPress.

Main Category Label

This is the label shown above the main category field in the submit form.

Example: Property Type

Main Category Label for Dropdowns

This is the placeholder text shown in the main category dropdown before the user selects an option.

Example: Select Property Type

Secondary Category Label

This is the label shown above the secondary category field in the submit form.

Example: Property Type

Secondary Category Label for Dropdowns

This is the placeholder text shown in the secondary category dropdown before the user selects an option.

Example: Select Category

Important: These options only change the text shown in the submit form. To manage the actual category values, edit the listing taxonomies from wp-admin.

Item Description Label

The Item Description Label option controls the label shown for the listing description field in the submit form.

Use this option if you want to rename the description field to something more specific for your website.

Example: About this Rental

Maximum Number of Images per Listing

The option Maximum number of images per listing controls how many images users can upload when submitting or editing a listing from the front end.

Note: This limit applies to front-end listing uploads only.

If owners cannot upload more images, check this value first.

Redirect URL After Listing Submit

The option URL where the user will be redirected after property submit allows you to redirect users to a specific page after they submit a listing.

You can use this option to redirect users to:

  • a thank you page
  • the My Listings dashboard page
  • a payment page
  • a membership package page
  • a custom instruction page
Note: Leave this field blank if you do not want to use a custom redirect after listing submission.

Common Issues and Checks

A field does not show in the front-end listing form

  • Go to Theme Options > Add Listing Page & Payment Settings > Listing Submission Form.
  • Check if the field is selected in Select the Fields for listing submission.
  • Save the settings again.
  • Test from User Dashboard > My Listings > Add New Listing or Edit Listing.

A new custom field does not show in the selection list

  • Confirm the custom field was created from Theme Options > General > Listing Custom Fields.
  • Return to the Listing Submission Form settings.
  • Save the settings again.
  • Refresh the page and check the field list again.

A new Feature or Amenity does not show in the form

  • Confirm the feature was created from Listings, Bookings & More > Listing Features.
  • Return to the Listing Submission Form settings.
  • Select the feature in the form fields list.
  • Save the settings.

Users cannot submit the listing

  • Check if a mandatory field is hidden from the form.
  • Check if required fields are selected in both the visible fields list and mandatory fields list.
  • Test the form from the front-end dashboard, not only from wp-admin.

Category labels changed, but category values did not change

This is normal. Category label options only change the text shown in the submit form. They do not rename or replace the actual category terms.

Important Notes

  • The Listing Submission Form settings affect the front-end Add New Listing and Edit Listing forms.
  • Use CTRL on Windows or Command on Mac to select multiple fields.
  • Only fields selected in Select the Fields for listing submission will appear in the front-end form.
  • Fields selected as mandatory must be completed before the listing can be submitted.
  • Do not mark hidden fields as mandatory.
  • After adding new custom fields, re-save the Listing Submission Form settings.
  • After adding new Features and Amenities, re-save the Listing Submission Form settings.
  • The image upload limit applies only to front-end listing submission.
  • Leave the redirect URL blank if you do not want to redirect users after submission.
