Before reading this help file you may want to check this video. It explains theme functionality and may be easier to understand. Watch Video on Youtube

This help lists all the steps you need to do to be sure you’re installing your domain, wordpress and theme correctly.

Before Installing the theme

Before installing any WordPress theme, including WpRentals, you must have:

  • A hosting,
  • A domain and
  • WordPress installed on that domain

Choose a hosting company, and moreover choose a hosting dedicated for WordPress hosting. What we recommend is to avoid very cheap ones because those are very limited and to run a fast website you need more. But other than that, choose a plan you are comfortable with from costs point of view and that allows you to upgrade if you wish to.

Get your own domain. Hosting will help and guide how to set your new domain on your new server.

Install WordPress on your domain. Many web hosts can automatically install WordPress for you.

If you wish to do this yourself, check the following resources:

Minimum PHP Configuration Limits

Note: Ensure that your web host has the minimum requirements to run WordPress and WpRentals theme.
Help article about Server / Theme Requirements

PHP time limit

  • max_execution_time 600  ( PHP.ini)
  • set_time_limit(600);    (wp-config.php)
  • max_execution 600   (.htaccess file)

PHP memory limit

  • memory_limit 256M

PHP post max size

  • post_max_size 64M

Upload max filesize (if you do not have the right max upload size,  you will get the error  The link you followed has expired

  • upload_max_filesize 64MB

Download the Theme from your buyer account

The file you must download in your buyer account from Theme Forest:

  • “Installable WordPress File” – is the zip that includes  only the theme files (wprentals.zip)
  • “All files & documentation” – is the zip that includes all the files offered with the theme (wprentals.zip + recommended child theme + theme original property markers and more

If you download the full theme pack, you will need to unzip and install only the wprentals.zip folder.

Install WpRentals Theme via WordPress

1. Navigate to Appearance > Themes
2. Click Add New and click the Upload button.
3. Browse to find the wprentals.zip file on your computer and click Install Now.

4. Activate WpRentals from Appearance > Themes

5. Install the mandatory plugins from Appearance > Install plugin. WpRentals Core Functionality is MANDATORY. Install this plugin before you activate the license!

6.  Activate the theme with your buyer license code – more here https://help.wprentals.org/article/where-is-my-purchase-code/

Go to WpRentals License section

Fill in the form with your ThemeForest Username https://themeforest.net/, which you used to buy the theme and the license code downloaded.

Activate your license. You must see the message You have successfully registered. when you complete this step successfully.

7. Save permalinks to Post Name for search redirect to work

8. Next you can go to Demo Import. Please check this help with videos for how to import demo – https://help.wprentals.org/article/demo-import-video-tutorials/

Install WpRentals via the FTP

Step1:  Download only “All files and documentation”, unzip the theme pack, and find the wprentals folder.

Step2:  Upload the folder wprentals folder contents to the wp-content/themes folder on your server – via FTP Manager

The demo content provided with this theme is for demonstration purposes only. It is intended to showcase the layout and functionality of the theme. Please note  Images, videos, and other media files included in the demo content are placeholders and may be subject to copyright. These are not licensed for use on live websites. You are responsible for replacing them with properly licensed assets.

Before theme installation and demo setup Ensure that your web host has the minimum requirements to run WordPress and WpRentals theme. – Help article about Server / Theme Requirements

Import related notes:

  • Because not all hostings can import a large content at once, the theme will come with a limited number of images. That will help make a fast import.
  • If you need to use free images, you can use pixabay or pexels. These sites offer free videos as well.
  • If you see  some icons missing, it is just because WordPress by default disables the import for svg icons. But it is not an error.  and you actually get the svg icons with your license installation folder if you need too.
  • If you import different demos or import the same demo multiple times, there will be duplicated content (menus, widgets, and theme options will override).  We recommend starting with 1 demo content and if you need to install another demo, reset the demo first nd import a new demo after.

Allow svg before starting the demo import

SVG icons are disabled by default from WordPress. To allow SVG before import, you need to enable this at the server level.

The SVG support plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/svg-support/ is the plugin that will allow you to upload SVG Icons for Features and Amenities and for the demo icons to be imported along with the demo Features and Amenities, this plugin needs to be active before the demo import.  The SVG support plguin is added as one of the included plugins.

Make sure that the SSL certificate is correctly set for your site

Go to admin-Settings-General and make sure that WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) have HTTPS

Import Demo Data

Step1: Go to Import Demo Data -> and Select the demo you wish from those available

Step2: Select the demo you wish to import and click Continue and Import

For speed purposes, demo images are not included in the import. Revolution Sliders are imported separately from demo_content/revolutions_sliders folder If the import doesn’t go through in 1-2 minutes, server limits are affecting the import. Please check the server requirements list here. For our assistance with this process, please contact us through client support here.

  • During the import, you will see

  • When the import is done you see:

Step3: Delete the import plugin as you do not use it anymore

If Demo Content Import Fails

Import process needs server to support full import.  Many shared hostings limit services such as: Your PHP memory, file upload size, and/or execution limits are set too low. A nd these have to be corrected by hosting on in your hosting account (if your hosting allows you to do that).

Ideally these values should be:

  • max_execution_time 180
  • memory_limit 96M
  • post_max_size 64M
  • upload_max_filesize 64M

Demo Import Help for WpRentals

Demo import should work smoothly via wp-admin as explained in our official guide:
👉 1-Click Demo Import Help

❗ If Demo Import Fails

If you cannot import the theme from wp-admin, or if the demo import fails or gets stuck, check that your current hosting environment meets the minimum server requirements:

✅ Recommended PHP Configuration Limits

  • max_execution_time 600
  • memory_limit 128M
  • post_max_size 64M
  • upload_max_filesize 64M

💡 Contact your hosting provider and ask them to increase these values to the recommended limits or as high as possible.

How to Check Your Current PHP Limits

You can quickly verify your active PHP configuration directly from your WordPress dashboard using the Site Health tool (no plugin needed):

✅ Steps:

  • Go to your WordPress Dashboard
  • Navigate to Tools > Site Health
  • Click the “Info” tab at the top
  • Expand the “Server” section

Here you’ll find important details like:

  • PHP version
  • memory_limit
  • max_execution_time
  • post_max_size
  • upload_max_filesize
⚠ Even if you try increasing these values via wp-config.php or .htaccess, they might not apply if the server has hard limits. If the limits remain low, your hosting provider must adjust them manually.

Some shared hosting environments restrict these values for performance reasons — always check with your host if you’re unsure or need assistance updating them.

LiteSpeed Cache Plugin Can Break the Demo Import

If your hosting provider (like Hostinger) automatically installs the LiteSpeed Cache plugin, it’s critical to disable all caching and optimization features before starting demo import.

Caching can cause:

  • Missing images or content

  • Broken demo functionality

  • Page builder or widget issues

Before demo import:

  • Go to LiteSpeed Cache > Settings

  • In each tab (General, Cache, Page Optimization, etc.), turn OFF all settings

  • Save changes after each tab

After theme import (if LiteSpeed was active):

  • Disable all settings in LiteSpeed

  • Purge all caches

  • Clear your browser cache or open the site in an incognito window

  • Re-import if necessary

💡 During development, we recommend deactivating the LiteSpeed plugin entirely to avoid frontend JavaScript errors that can break register/login forms or other features.

Help to see how to disable the litespeed cache is here https://help.wprentals.org/article/how-to-disable-litespeed-cache-options-to-verify-correctly-the-theme-functionality/

Demo Import Not Working Properly (403 Errors, Blank Pages, Elementor Issues)

If you experience a situation where demo import did not complete successfully due to a 403 Forbidden error when clicking “Start Import.” Eventually it worked, but pages built with Elementor were blank or empty.

Root Cause

  • The server did not have “Containers” enabled for Elementor.
  • Without containers, Elementor’s layout structure breaks, especially for newer templates like Portland.
  • As a result:
    • The homepage and key pages appeared empty.
    • Import only partially succeeded.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Enable Containers in Elementor

Containers are required for all modern Elementor-based demos.

To activate:

  • Go to Elementor → Settings → Features
  • Find “Container”
  • Set it to Active
  • Click Save Changes

Reset the Installation

If demo was imported before enabling containers:

  • Use a plugin like WP Reset to reset the site
  • Re-activate the theme license
  • Re-run the demo import

📩 Need Help?

If you’re still having trouble:

  • Open a ticket in our client support system:

  • Include your site URL and tempory wp-admin login.

  • Please check server settings with your host first, as import issues are often related to hosting configuration.

Before updating Wp Rentals it’s wise to prepare everything carefully to prevent any loss of settings or customization you have made to your site. Below is our handy checklist we recommend you go through before attempting the theme update.

Backing Up First

Important before update:

  • Make sure you always check the update notes – https://help.wprentals.org/article-category/change-log/
  • Always backup the files and the database, in case something goes wrong with the server, use the backup to revert to the previous state.
  • Backup your language (if it exists) from plugins/wprentals-core/languages/ and add it again after plugin update –  https://help.wprentals.org/article/translation/
  • Delete the cache after you update (server, plugin, CDN, browser and theme)

What to check after you finish the theme update:

  • Update Theme core plugin- mandatory

  • Clear theme and plugin cache.

Download the latest theme

Download the theme again from the Theme Forest account, where you initially purchased it. The download will be under your buyer account – Downloads. Download only “Installable WordPress file only”

Update the theme with Envato Market Plugin

Step 1: Install the Envato Market Plugin from here https://envato.com/market-plugin/ or from theme Install Plugin Notice

Step 2: Go to Envato Market Settings and Add the API Key Connection

Step 3: Update the theme (keep in mind this process overrides your existing theme files and any modifications done in code, if they exist). Backup your files to be sure you can easily find those changes

Step 4: Update plugins (Mandatory to update Wp Rentals Core plugin which is updated with every theme update)

Reload page

Go to Install Plugins

Update plugins

Update theme via FTP

  1. Place your site in maintenance mode, for this, you could use a plugin (ex. Ultimate Maintenance Mode, WP Maintenance Mode, … etc.)
  2. Go to “yoursite/wp-content/themes” folder location and backup your wprentals theme folder by saving it to your computer, or rename it (wprentals_old). Your content will not be lost but note that if you have modifications to the theme code they will be lost. You have to reapply them after the update is over.
  3. Connect to your FTP account using Filezilla.
  4. Inside Filezilla navigate to the WordPress theme directory “yoursite/wp-content/themes”.
  5. Retrieve the wprentals.zip file from your recently ThemeForest download and extract the file to get the updated wprentals theme folder.
  6. Drag and drop the new wprentals theme folder into “yoursite/wp-content/themes” and overwrite the existing files.

NOTE: make sure you don’t copy theme files inside the previous theme folder and get duplicate files.
If you had any special modifications done in the previous theme version you can copy from wprentals_old backup to new wprentals folder. But we would strongly recommend using a child theme for changes.  Help https://help.wprentals.org/article/how-to-activate-child-theme/

Update the theme via WordPress

To have a backup of your previous version, access your website via FTP and rename previous theme from wprentals to wprentals_old in path wp-content/themes

Step 1. Deactivate the current wprentals theme from the Appearance > Themes section

Step 2. Activating a different theme.

Step 3. Once you activate a different theme, delete the wprentals theme. Don’t worry, your content will not be lost.

Step 4. Get the “wprentals.zip” file from your Theme Forest – Buyer account section (Installable WordPress file only). If you downloaded the “All Files & Documentation” from Themeforest, then you need to unzip the archive file you received, the wpresidence.zip will be inside it.

Step 5. Go to Appearance > Themes, choose Add New ThemeUpload the wprentals.zip and click on the “Install Now” button.

Step 6. After your upload is finished choose Activate the theme.

Step 7. Update all plugins

IMPORTANT: all your theme settings will NOT change during this process. But the language files (in wprentals/languages) folder and any other code changes you had done directly the wprentals theme folder will be deleted if you choose this method. Use the wprentals-child-po for translations to avoid this. Help https://help.wprentals.org/article/how-to-add-translated-po-files-in-child-theme/

Update Plugins

You DON’T need a buyer license to use these plugins. We purchased an extended license we give all our clients plugin updates through theme updates. There is only one license per purchase – so only we can use this license to get the updates and then share the update with our clients.

Update the plugins by clicking on the notification in the header or from Install Plugins menu

Update the plugins only, without doing a theme update

Step1: Download the theme again from the Theme Forest account, where you initially purchased it. The download will be under your buyer account – Downloads. Download only “All files & documentation”

Step 2: Unzip the folder downloaded

Step 3: Go to plugins folder to take the latest plugins

Step 4: Disable and delete the plugins from Admin – Plugins

Step 5: Upload the new Plugins from Plugins – Add New – Upload – And activate

If you wish the plugins updates sooner than we make the theme update, open a support ticket here – http://support.wpestate.org/ and ask us for the latest plugins

HTTPS (Secure HTTP) is an encryption protocol that secures the connection between your users’ browsers and your server. This encryption makes it much harder for hackers to intercept or eavesdrop on data transmitted between them.

How to Enable HTTPS in WordPress Settings

If you are starting a new site or want to use HTTPS across your entire site, and your hosting has added an SSL certificate, you need to update your site URL settings:

  1. Go to Settings > General in your WordPress dashboard

  2. Update both the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) fields to use https:// instead of http://

How to Set Up an SSL Certificate for Your Website

Many hosts offer free SSL certificates via Let’s Encrypt. Contact your hosting for assistance.

If unsure, contact your hosting support to ask about enabling SSL or installing an SSL certificate.

Why Do You Need an API Key?

Google Maps requires you to add your own API key before it can be used on your website. Since June 2018, Google requires a billing account to be set up, but you get $200/month of free usage, which is enough for most websites.

🔗 More details on pricing:

How to Get a Google Maps API Key

Step 1: Log in to Google Cloud Console

Step 2: Set Up Your Billing Account

  • Google requires a billing account, even if you stay within the free $200/month limit.
  • Add your billing details in the Google Cloud Billing section.

Step 3: Create a New Project & Enable APIs

Create a new project in Google Cloud Console.

Go to Library API and enable the following 5 APIs:

  1. Maps JavaScript API
  2. Maps Static API
  3. Places API
  4. Geocoding API
  5. Geolocation API
  6. Street View Static API

WpRentals 3.16.0 will support Google Places API (New) as the original Places API has been discontinued for new accounts. All clients will need to have Google Places API (New) enabled in APIs & Services

Step 4: Get Your API Key

  • Select “GET A KEY” in the Google Cloud Console.
  • Click “Create API” to generate your key.

Step 5: Restrict Your API Key (Important for Security)

To prevent unauthorized use, restrict your key:

  • Use wildcard domains  (e.g., *.yourdomain.com) so it works on all pages of your site.
  • If you only enter yourdomain.com, the key will work only on the homepage (yourdomain.com).

Use wildcard domains:

Step 6: Add API Key to Theme Options

  1. Copy your API Key.
  2. Go to Theme Options → Map → Map Settings.
  3. Paste the API key and save changes.

Paste the key in Theme Options > Map Configuration > Map General Settings > Google Maps API Key

  • Make sure you select Google Maps for Map System
  • Make sure you select Google Places for Places API

How to Check if Your API Key is Correct

If Google Maps does not load, check for errors:

  • Open your site in Chrome.
  • Right-click → Inspect → Console to see if there are any Google Maps error messages.
  • If needed, go to your Google Cloud Console and verify that your API key is properly set up and restricted.

About Child Theme

It’s recommended to install and activate also the Child Theme provided with Rentals theme pack if you plan to make your own code modifications.

A child theme automatically inherits the parent theme’s features, styles, and templates. This allows you to make changes to your site using child themes without ever modifying the parent theme.

When a new version of the parent theme is launched, you can safely update it as all your modifications are saved in the child theme. A child theme built on a powerful theme framework allows a great deal of flexibility without writing a lot of code.

You can selectively modify only the template files and functions that you need without going through other template files. You can add new functionality and much more. (from http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/wordpress-child-theme-pros-cons/)

For more complex changes documentation, go to – http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

Please keep in mind that theme customization services ARE NOT included in the client standard support. Our support team cannot do code modifications for you.

Item support is a service provided directly by us through the FreshDesk ticket system – http://support.wpestate.org/. Support is limited to questions regarding the theme’s features or problems with the theme.

We are not able to provide support for code customizations or third-party plugins. If you need help with anything other than minor customizations of your theme, we suggest searching for a WordPress developer on studio.envato.com.

Full Themeforest support policy is available here for further information (https://themeforest.net/page/item_support_policy).

Install a Child Theme from theme pack

A child theme is optional. It includes the minim files needed to set up a child theme for clients to make their custom changes and to add a custom language file.

For a custom language, you must also translate the wprentals-core/languages/wprentals-core.po file And this cannot be moved to child theme. So please backup this translation. Read more here https://help.wprentals.org/article/translation/
  • Download “All Files and Documentation” from your buyer account -> Downloads

  • Unzip and find wprentals-child.zip

  • Activate child theme.

NOTE:

Changes in child theme are not affected during a theme update. You may still need to review these changes in case new theme updates are done in the same files modified in the child theme. If this is the case you must adapt your child theme to new theme updates.
